our top 5 honeymoon recommendations ...

Chances are, your honeymoon will be the biggest trip you will take as a couple. This is your first post wedding adventure and you want to make it legendary. With so many fabulous destinations, the hard part will be deciding where to go. Whether you’re adventurous foodies, wine lovers or beach bums- I’ve put together my top 10 list of honeymoons around the world with someone for everyone.

MEXICO CITY
Mexico’s vivacious capital city has exploded onto the scene is now recognized as one of the world’s top cities. From it’s trendy neighborhoods to luxury hotels to world-class museums and world-renowned restaurants; Mexico City is an obvious pick for design and art lovers and foodies. If extravagance is what you’re looking for, I would look no further than the Four Seasons. Centrally located on bustling Reforma Avenue; the hotel is walking distance to many of the city’s finest museums and galleries. Located just down the road, the St. Regis is another of my favorites. Whether or not you’re saying there; checking out their sumptuous Sunday brunch is a must! Smaller, boutique properties in neighborhoods like La Roma and Colonia La Condesa boast quirky architecture, custom amenities and top notch service. If understated elegance is more your speed; check into Yabu Pushelberg designed hotel: Las Alcobas located in the heart of Polanco on Masaryk. My favorite feature? The deep soaking tubs with over the top hydrotherapy amenities that are in every room.

RAB INSIDER TIP: best months to visit are: January through May, October through December.

ARGENTINA
From sipping Malbecs in Mendoza, hiking the jungle of Iguazu, trekking the mountains of Patagonia, or simply dancing tango until the early hours of the morning in Buenos Aires, a honeymoon to Argentina is bursting with romantic things to do. Your first stop should definitely include a few days in Buenos Aires. It’s posh eateries. upscale boutiques and twentieth century mansions give a glimpse as to why B.A. has been called the Paris of South America. I would recommend splurging (afterall it is your honeymoon) and staying at the landmark Alvear Palace Hotel. For wine lovers, Mendoza is an ideal next stop. Set in the foothills of the Andes mountains, the destination offers more than 1,500 wineries, breathtaking scenery, outdoor adventures and it’s only a two hour flight from Buenos Aires. In order to get the “true” experience, I would recommend staying at one of the many local Posadas like the Posada Verde Oliva. You’ll feel as if you’re the guest at someone’s country home!

RAB INSIDER TIP: book a table at Azafran for a modern take on Argentine classics. I would highly recommend the Argentine beef wrapped in puff pastry.

PORTUGAL
There’s a reason (or several hundred) why Portugal has recently topped the list as a honeymoon destination. Where do I begin? Your itinerary must include Porto. Set along the banks of the serene Duoro River, the city has stolen the hearts of many newlyweds. Well known for its ancient monuments and pulsating nightlife; the city is also home to unique hotels and first-class restaurants. My favorite view of Porto? From the terrace of The Yeatman hotel- on the other side of the Duoro- while sipping a cocktail. The medieval city of Obidos should also be on your list. Couples can get lost on the cobblestone streets or take in a sunset by the beach. Sleep like royalty in the 700 year old Medieval castle Pousada Castelo de Obidos. The stunning capital of Lisbon should also not be missed. Boasting everything from castles, museums, fine dining restaurants and amazing nightlife- it also makes a great home base for day trips to the picturesque town of Sintra and seaside village of Cascais.

RAB INSIDER TIP: Plan your honeymoon between June and October. The weather is cheery and sunny so you can enjoy sightseeing or indulge in best of beach activities, island hopping, and water sports.

SANTORINI, GREECE
The Greek Islands are perfect for couples wanting to go off the radar. While you may have seen the whitewashed buildings of Santorini in photos a thousand times, nothing compares to the real deal. The island is both mysterious and dynamic. You also won’t be short of romantic places to rest your head either. If private hot tubs and chocolate turndown service are your thing; you’re going to want to book a room at Adronis. You can’t go wrong with checking into Mystique Resort Santorini either. Carved into the Caldera cliffs, Mystique oozes a carefree spirit- barefoot elegance if you will. While you may not want to venture away from the hotel, Santorini is worth exploring. Greek cuisine is all about fresh seafood so make sure to get out and explore its many restaurants and cafes.

RAB INSIDER TIP: Weather in late spring or early fall can’t be beat.

THE MALDIVES
Cliche? Maybe. Worth it? Definitely! This destination is for ocean lovers. The Maldives are home to some of the most alluring beaches in the world. Picture frosty white sand and remarkably sapphire waters. You’re definitely going to want to pack your snorkel and explore the sensational sea life. I’m also told that the skies become alive after sunset. The Maldives is said to have some of the most spectacular starscapes on the planet. There are also plenty of hotel options ranging from 5-star luxury to more rustic abodes. If you’ve always wanted to dine on a deserted sandbank, you might want to check out Ananatara. Not only do their villas boast ridiculous views, the amenities are over the top. PIllow and soap menu anyone? Or get starstruck at Soneva Jani know for it’s North Beach Private Sunrise Breakfast.

RAB INSIDER TIP: Check out the glow in the dark beach at the Dusit Thani resort.
